Progress Made at Canton Indoor Golf Center

Owners hope for Thanksgiving weekend opening.

Activity at the former IGA/Discount Food Outlet building in Canton Village Plaza has picked up lately as a group of local businessmen get closer to opening an indoor golf facility.

Inside the building, carpenters, electricians, artists and others are building, planning, painting and wiring for two separate entities for the Canton Indoor Golf Center, a Glow Cove mini-golf center on one side and a high-definition golf simulation business, dubbed Year Roundz, on the other.

Glow Cove will include an 18-hole, glow-in-the-dark mini golf course, three birthday party rooms, an ice cream and pizza bar and video arcade.

Year Roundz will offer eight high-definition simulators, a putting green and a sports bar/restaurant.

One of the partners in the venture, Chris Maher of Canton, said it will be a challenge but the hope is to open in November.

“We’re hoping for Thanksgiving weekend,” he said. “That’s our goal.”

As reported in Patch in April, the business received zoning commission approval late that month. In July, work commenced on gutting the building, which still had numerous fixtures from its years as a grocery store.

Construction began roughly at the beginning of September, Maher said.

The Glow Cove mini golf course itself, which the business plans to offer as a public facility as well as a birthday party attraction, is nearly complete. The local owners hired black light mini-golf company Shankz to build the course.

Some of the golf simulation booths are also nearly complete as well and Maher and others are working on hundreds of details involved in opening a business.

Helping him run the business is Kevin Ebner of Harwinton. Ebner’s father Buzz is a financing partner in the venture.
