Larsen Ace Hardware Owners Hope to Finish Upgrades by Year's End

Changes are underway at Larsen Ace Hardware and owners are hoping its all wrapped up by year's end.

The business is expanding to occupy the entire building where it’s located in Canton Village, brining retail space from approximately 6,000 to nearly 10,000 square feet, said company president Fred Larsen Jr.

In addition, many changes are coming to the building's exterior, including a new vestibule entrance, new windows, siding, a new roof and even some solar panels. The exterior work is underway with a targeted completion time of late early to mid October. Larsen said the target date for the interior expansion is late November or early December.

The store plans to essentially carry the same types of products but  offer a broader selection. For example, while it may currently have shelf space for four feet of brooms and mops, the extra space could give the store about 12 feet for those products, Larsen said.

In addition, the store will offer better circulation, a one-line system and additional registers to help cut down on wait times.

While the store hopes to draw some new customers, the changes are really to help those existing patrons, Larsen said.

"This is really to accommodate our existing customers," he said. “We've been fortunate. We’ve been successful and have been able to save up to do this.

The Larsen family has fully owned the business since January of 2002.
