Fundraiser to Benefit American Lab Rescue

Husk, Roaring Brook Veterinary Hospital pitch in to help organization.

A Collinsville restaurant will host a fundraiser for a dog rescue organization tonight, Monday, April 4.

From 5 to 8 p.m., Husk: New American Tacos will donate 10 percent of its profits and 100 percent of tips to Animal Lab Rescue, a Willington-based organization.

Sponsoring the fundraiser on behalf of the organization is Roaring Brook Veterinary Hospital. The Canton business has worked with American Lab Rescue for about 5 years and often houses and cares for dogs awaiting adoption.

“I know what a struggle it is for them to obtain funding,” said Tim Burns, manager at Roaring Brook in Canton. “We thought it would be a good fundraiser.”

David Wolf, president of American Lab Rescue, said he greatly appreciates the support of the veterinary hospital and Husk.

“I was surprised as anyone that we have groups willing to do this,” Wolf said.

American Lab Rescue has found permanent homes for nearly 4,000 dogs, Wolf said. While the group specializes in Labradors and Labrador mixes, it is an all-breed organization and currently has some 75 dogs available for adoption.

Husk owner Jordan Stein said Monday evenings are available as fundraising nights and organizations have made between $500 and $2,000.

“Any non-profit is welcome,” Stein said. “We do what we can.”
