FroyoWorld Franchisee Targets May 1 Opening at the Shoppes

As he targets a May 1 opening, FroyoWorld franchisee Tripp Kamercia emphasizes that he wants the self-serve yogurt lounge to be a part of the community — a place that provides a healthy snack for all ages, a little fun, free WiFi and support for local organizations.

"It's a lounge not a store," Kamercia said. "We want people to come and hang out."

The franchise is coming to Lowell Court in the former Monarch Jewelers space at the Shoppes at Farmington Valley, near American Eagle, the clock tower, the Green Tangerine and Snippets.

Kamercia said construction is on schedule for the targeted May 1 opening.

The setup will be self serve. Customers will come in, take a cup and choose among 14 flavors at seven machines. They can also mix flavors for a total of 21 choices. Cup dividers will give kids of all ages the chance to make two desserts in one.

Flavors will rotate on a monthly basis but a few staples, such as the franchise's trademark Tart, will always be available. Each was developed just for FroyoWorld, Kamercia said.

A digital screen above each choice will contain nutritional information and potential allergens. A couple of sorbet choices will be provided for the lactose intolerant.

From there, customers will have a wide range of topping choices that include fresh fruit, granola and candy.

Seating choices will include 10 bar stools at two separate counters as well as indoor and outdoor tables. Wall televisions and wifi will also be featured.

Kamercia said he also plans to sponsor and fundraise for community organizations.

The location will provide 6 to 10 part-time jobs, he said. Kamercia was interviewing applicants Tuesday afternoon and will do so again on Sunday, April 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the store.

This will be the first full-time business venture for Kamercia, who hails from Clinton, CT. He said frozen yogurt is hot right now but feels the market is not saturated. He also feels it's popular for good reason.

"It's a really healthy alternative to ice cream," he said. "You can have a healthy treat without feeling guilty later."

Kamercia said he was looking at the Farmington Valley area when thinking of opening a franchise and really loved the shoppes and the particular location, which is near the playground, restaurants and more.

"It's a great spot," he said. "We're just really excited to be here."

Kamercia has not honed in on final hours but said the location will be open 7 days a week. Keep up with updates on the business facebook page
