Frequency Fitness Owner Builds on Reputation

After years working in area, Jen Marchione is operating her own studio.

While there’s no shortage of places in the Valley to work out, Jen Marchione feels that Frequency Fitness offers a unique approach over most gyms.

Whether it's for individual personal fitness, cycling, other small group fitness classes or nutrition counseling, clients of the business benefit from an intimate setting, Marchione said.

“We’re able to offer more individual attention,” Marchione said.

Offerings at the facility include pilates, power yoga, group cycling, cycle and strength, nutrition counseling, personal training and more.

The business just opened on May 14 at 261 Albany Turnpike (Route 44) but Marchione, who co-owns it with her husband Frank, is no stranger to personal fitness and teaching.

She’s worked in area health clubs since 1999 and for approximately six years managed Fit Wellness Studio across the street from her current location. In 2010, a new owner purchased the business and changed its name. Marchione continued to manage it but the new owner eventually closed the Canton location.

Marchione had always wanted to run her own studio so, in a way, the closing worked out.

“It was just the kick in the butt I needed,” she said.

Although there was a six-month gap, Marchione also had many loyal clients, which has helped greatly in starting a new business.

“It’s definitely an exciting time,” she said. “I had very loyal clients. I find word of mouth is one of the best ways of advertising.”

Marchione has several beliefs about fitness, one of which is that it’s good to keep things fresh.

While some clients are not regular members, they will schedule periodic personal training sessions.

It’s an approach she recommends for those who are motivated with their own routines but need an occasional boost.

“It keeps it fresh,” she said. “You don’t want to do the same thing over and over again. Eventually your body won’t respond.”

She is also a firm believer in good eating habits and the business offers nutrition counseling with Kristen VanWormer.

All of her programs emphasize the importance of eating properly and living a healthy lifestyle, Marchione said.

“I try to reiterate the importance of clean eating,” she said.

For those who can’t seem to exercise but aren’t accomplishing much, diet is usually the cause, she said.

“It’s typically what they’re eating,” she said.

Frequency Fitness is open Monday through Thursday from 5 a.m. to noon and again from 5 to approximately 7:30 p.m.

Friday it opens from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. and Sunday from 7 to 10 a.m. Clients can choose from personal training packages, membership options or pay drop-in prices for group cycling classes. Marchione said she will also offer free trial classes for new potential clients.

In addition, the business will also host an Open House Friday, June 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 23 from 1 to 3 p.m.
