For Hazen Sturtevant, The Cracker Barrel Pub’s
atmosphere is perfect.
“It exactly what people expect when they think of a
pub,” he said.
However, since he took over as general manager and chef last fall, Sturtevant has been busy making some changes to the menu, improving service, adding new features and brining back some old favorites at the Tariffville landmark.
In the menu department, the restaurant has developed some new signature dishes, including a macaroni burger, four new pizzas, cornflake chicken, ever-changing and often experimental daily specials and more.
The restaurant also varies its 24 tap beers on a regular and seasonal basis.
“We like to keep a variety as much as possible,” Sturtevant
Sturtevant and co. are also developing a fresh line of desserts and plan to use many locally grown products, especially during the growing season.
“We’re definitely sparing no expense on food,” he said.
In the service department Sturtevant said some new staff and better organization of job responsibility has improved service and times greatly.
“Food is coming out faster and better,” he said.
The restaurant is also bringing back entertainment. A Wednesday night trivia session is quickly gaining in popularity and plans are in the works to bring back weekend disc jockeys, karaoke and live music, including outside shows when the weather gets warmer.
Sturtevant is also planning for an early week open mic night.
The pub also continues to be a destination for sports. Eleven televisions provide daily variety.
year, the restaurant is also continuing its Super Bowl Sunday 42-inch
with an 82-inch projection screen, it’s a popular spot for the big game.
