The Sun Shines on Canton Chamber's 20th Annual Golf Tournament

Amidst fun, business leaders also pay tribute to the late Mark Quattro, L. Gardner Graves

The day may have begun with heavy rain but my mid afternoon the sun was bright for the Canton Chamber of Commerce's 20th Annual Golf Tournament.

The event, which in part raises funds for chamber scholarships, included a full day on the course at Hop Meadow Country Club, lunch, dinner, a raffle and tributes to the late L. Gardner Graves Jr. and Mark H. Quattro, community and business leaders who played a key role in the tournament for many years.

Dr. Arnold Goldman said Quattro, who died on a golf course in June of 2012, was giving in so many ways — to the business community, students, charities and more. He said Quattro's life reflected one of his favorite historical quotes from Harry S. Truman — "it's amazing what you can do if you do not care who gets the credit."

"Mark Quattro epitomized what community service means," Goldman said.

Julius Fialkiewicz spoke of Graves, his late business partner at Realty Works who died on cancer in June of 2011.

"The golf tournament really was his favorite," Fialkiewicz said. "He made sure the golfers and himself had plenty of margaritas. He totally enjoyed the day. He never did like the recognition."
