Avon Kempo And Aikido Academy Settles In At New Canton Studio

After nearly a month in its new Canton location, Avon Kempo and Aikido Academy owners Dominick and Jeanene Violante said things are going smoothly.

Since early July, the martial arts studio has offered its classes at 166 Albany Turnpike (Route 44) in the Canton Green plaza.

The studio is still applying some finishing touches but has much in place already.

"There's some adjustments but overall it's going to work out better," Dominick Violante said.

For the past several years, the studio was located in the Tri Town Plaza on Route 44 in Avon. In Canton, the business gained more than 1,000 square feet and now has approximately 5,200. That leaves more room for a pro shop, equipment storage and displays. In addition a second floor studio opens up other possibilities.

One will likely be kids and adult yoga with Liz Bohmier and Tai Chi classes, the Violantes said. They are also exploring offering some of those options in conjunction with the karate classes to help parents and siblings with different interests.

"People have liked the space a lot better," Jeanene Violante said. "It's not 100 percent but it's at least operational."
