Avon Kempo and Aikido Academy Moving to Canton

After 13 years in Avon, Avon Kempo and Aikido Academy is moving to Canton this summer.

Jeanene Violante, who runs the karate studio with husband Dominick, said it is a "little bittersweet" to leave Avon but added she is also excited about the move to the Canton Green Plaza on Route 44.

For the last three years the studio has occupied some 4,000 square feet in the Tri Town Plaza on Route 44 in Avon.

While she acknowledges there are four other martial arts studios in Canton and the business may lose a few current students to other Avon area studios, there are numerous positives to the location, according to Violante.

The Canton studios all teach different styles and the new space is about two miles from the current location, is in a family friendly plaza and gives the studio a little more than 5,000 square feet over two floors for less money, Violante said.

Other Canton Green kid-specific businesses include The Little Green Tambourine and Canton Pediatrics.

"It will be nice to have three things to draw the kids," she said.

Plaza owner Joel Fried agrees that it will be a "nice fit," with the places that cater to kids as well as other family friendly businesses like Dogology.

"I think everyone will be happy," he said. "I always like seeing businesses move to Canton."

Violante said the business will have to close for a short time. June 30 is the last day in Avon and they really hope to open the doors in Canton some in mid July to minimize down time.

"Hopefully we can get in there and keep the energy moving," she said.

She said they will keep the business name since it is well established.
