Canton School District Names Its 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year

Kerry Hartley has been named Canton Public Schools 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year.

Hartley, a social studies teacher in grades 9-12, has been employed in the Canton Public Schools since 1998.

Kevin D. Case, Superintendent of the Canton Public Schools stated that “Kerry is an outstanding educator. She has an in-depth knowledge of curriculum, as well as an excellent understanding of effective instructional strategies.  She maintains high expectations for all of her students continually challenging and encouraging them to strive to do their personal best.  Kerry guided a group of students to a first place in the preliminary round of the Euro Challenge that was held at the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston March of 2013.  She also understands the importance of teaching students to be members of the global community, as she has traveled to visit Canton High School’s Sister School in China with a group of our high schoolers.

Hartley is an active member in the Global Association of Teachers of Economics. She is an engaged member of her school community that works collaboratively with all staff to provide the best educational opportunity for our students.  Kerry served as Co-chair of the NEASC Steering Committee; and is actively involved in the Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies Committee. She has earned the admiration and respect of her colleagues and students.
