A weekly roundup of events around Canton in art, music, theater, film, dance, comedy and more.

Closing Day of the Collinsville Farmers Market 

The Collinsville Farmers Market's season comes to a close this Sunday with live entertainment provided by Bill Benson from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bill, a singer-songwriter from Unionville, recently released a music video for his original composition "Porch Time." The video features still shots of public and private porches around Collinsville. See the video on YouTube here. 

The weekly farmers market, which runs annually from late May through October in the Canton Town Hall parking, is arranged by C.A.R.E. (Canton Advocates for Responsible Expansion) and features farm-fresh produce and other goods from farmers, growers, bakers and craftspeople from around the region. Thank you, farmers market vendors, and see you next year! 

Market Street Theater

This weekend, presents "The Glass Medacity," a Tennessee Williams parody by Maureen Morley and Tom Willmorth and directed by Angie Joachim of Canton. Performances are Friday and Saturday (Oct. 21-22) at 8 p.m. in the Canton Town Hall auditorium. Tickets are available at the door.

Roaring Brook Nature Center Concert Series

Saturday night at 7:30 p.m., the next event in the  Concert Series features Grammy-nominated songwriter-guitarist Eliza Gilkyson. 

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

The Hub Bar & Grille

Friday, local favorites The Substitutes transform from their day job as educators into rockers for a performance at . The show starts at 9 p.m.

The Hub's owner, Cindy, has also announced a Dart Drop-in on Saturday from noon to 3:30 p.m. Registration is $10 plus a non-perishable food item. There will be cash prizes for first and second places, and 25 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Canton Food Bank. 

Bridge Street Live 

 hosts guitar legend Jim Weider tonight, Friday. A former member of the famous group The Band, with ProJECT PERCoLAToR Jim brings together an all-star lineup featuring Rodney Holmes on drums (Santana), Jason Crosby on keyboards and violin (Robert Randolph Band), Steve Lucas on bass (Steve Kimock's band) and Avi Bortnick on guitar (John Scofield Band).

Saturday's entertainment at Bridge Street Live is Hot Day at the Zoo, who describe their genre as "zoograss." The New England-based quartet blend folk, blues, ragtime, jazz, progressive bluegrass and Americana-infused rock into a high-energy live show. 

, Bridge Street Live's new restaurant, opens each night at 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Dinner and cabaret menus are available. 

The Flatbread Company

On Thursday (Oct. 27), the  weekly live entertainment series continues with a solo performance by Courtney Drummey. 

The Crown & Hammer Restaurant & Pub

Friday, at the  Connecticut duo Hannah's Field returns to please the crowd with a performance of their original gypsy reggae music. 

On Saturday night, the Johnny Larsen Trio returns to the Crown. 

Live entertainment at the Crown is free of charge and begins around 9:30 p.m. 

Valley Ballet

"Frog and Toad" will be at on Sunday 2 p.m. This event, designed for children ages 3-10, is a participatory dance and dessert event with tea and dessert provided by New Hartford's Passiflora Tea Room.

Free Weekly Events

The popular Open Mic Night held at  Friday nights at 6 p.m. is hosted alternately by Eric Paradine and Con "Coyote" Doty. Call ahead or be early, as the sign-up sheet fills up fast.

Acoustic Open Mic Night at the Fireplace Cafe, hosted by singer-songwriter "GrimFacts" Ed Hoyer, Jr., continues each Tuesday starting at 8:30 p.m.

The  hosts weekly Karaoke Nights on Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 p.m. 

 also has a weekly Karaoke Night on Saturdays. 

The Crown & Hammer is now open on Mondays at 5 p.m. for Monday Night Football with a special pub menu, and Trivia Night occurs each Thursday night at 9 p.m.

At , artist Jim Koplar hosts an "Art Jam" on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For a $10 cover charge, art supplies and instruction are provided in a casual, supportive and fun environment.
