The Week in Arts and Entertainment: Memorial Day Weekend

A weekly round-up of events around town in art, music, theater, film and more.

The Fireplace Cafe

Saturday at the Fireplace (5 River St., Collinsville), acoustic Americana favorites Sweetheart Mountain return to play selections from their new recording, “Lakeville Postcard.” Advance copies of the eight-song LP include four originals written by fiddle player Arlene DeMaris and co-arranged with guitarist and lead vocalist Sean MacDonald, along with interpretations of four traditional songs. Kevin Gallagher rounds out the band on dobro, mandolin and guitar. DeMaris says, “We’re looking forward to playing and releasing the new recording in Collinsville, which we very much consider to be our hometown.” Listeners should expect a mix of bluegrass, old-time, Celtic and country, with an emphasis on harmonies and traditional rhythms.
