The Week in Arts and Entertainment: Father’s Day Weekend

Bridge Street Live

Fresh off a pair of appearances at Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee, Jamie McLean Band will rock this Saturday night. Guitarist Jamie McLean, who has toured as a member of the famed Dirty Dozen Band, made the decision to focus on leading his own band six years ago, giving him the opportunity to sing and play guitar on his own original material with songwriting influenced by the variety of Southern rock and roots artists he's performed with, along with inspiration from the music of other American icons such as Tommy Petty and the Heartbreakers. This band has won acclaim their strong musicianship and the raw energy of their live performances. This spring, the band toured with Soulive and released their fourth recording, "The Time of My Life," at a sold out release party in New York City.

Tonight, Friday, stand-up comedian Kevin Flynn, who plays Dr. Bram Walker on HBO's "Sex and the City," will perform at Bridge Street with an opening routine by Jackie Flynn (no relation). Kevin is the founder and executive director of the Nantucket Comedy Festival.

On Thursday, the "Southern Discomfort Comedy Tour" will swing through Collinsville with performances at Bridge Street by New York City-based comics Dustin Chafin, born and raised in Texas, and Nate Bargatze, born and raised in Tennessee.

Collinsville Spring Fest Mini Golf Build-Off and Tournament 

The  (Main St. & the Green) includes a Craft Fair from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., with wares from Connecticut artisans along with live music from Canton bands on the lawn between and . The Fair includes jewelry, photography, paintings, pottery, candles, vintage clothing and more. The entertainment schedule is:

The Hub Bar & Grille

Tonight, Friday, at the , Joe "Elvis" Borelli of New York will be performing Elvis's greatest hits. Start time is 8:30 p.m. Joe has appeared on NBC's Today show.

The Crown and Hammer Restaurant & Pub

As part of their grand re-opening celebration this weekend after completing final upgrades to the kitchen area, this weekend's entertainment at the features the return of two regular performers, blues guitarist D.C. Jones on Friday and Mark Miller on Saturday. Both shows are free and will begin after the dinner crowd, around 9 p.m. 

The Fireplace Cafe

Along with the popular weekly Open Mic Night held on Thursdays, the Fireplace on River Street in Collinsville is keeping busy during Father’s Day Weekend with the return of lively entertainer Paul the Shoreline Guy. The show starts around 9 p.m. While there is no cover charge, the Fireplace tradition is that musicians play for tips collected in "the bucket."   

The Flatbread Company

On Tuesday at , Grant's Tomb of Canton will perform at a benefit event for Camp Jewell's YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign. Bill Benson is the opening act at 5:30 p.m. On Thursday, Collinsville songwriter and guitarist Charles Spencer provides the dinner hour entertainment starting around 6 p.m. 

Collinsville Farmers Market

Live entertainment by acoustic Americana favorites Sweetheart Mountain is slated for the Collinsville Farmers Market on Sunday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Town Hall Parking Lot on Main Street. The band, from Canton, plays a mix of bluegrass, old-time, Celtic and country, with an emphasis on harmonies and traditional rhythms. 

Free Weekly Events

Participate or lend an ear at Open Mic Nights hosted by singer-songwriter Joanna Szymanski on Wednesdays at the Crown and Hammer  starting at 9 p.m. and on Thursdays at the Fireplace Cafe at 9 p.m. Open Mic Night on Fridays at  at 6 p.m. is hosted alternately by Conrad Doty and Eric Paradine; LaSalle's event is "B.Y.O.B.," beer and wine only, until later in the month, when LaSalle's new bar will open on weekend evenings. The  hosts weekly Karaoke Nights on Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 p.m. Entertainment at  Restaurant features classic jazz by Swing ’39 with a guitar and upright bass duo on Thursdays from 7-10 p.m. and a trio, including a clarinet and saxophone player, on Fridays from 7-10 p.m. La Trattoria's Sunday Champagne Brunch each week starting at 11 a.m. includes a free glass of champagne. At , artist Jim Koplar hosts an "Art Jam" on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. For a $10 cover charge, art supplies and instruction are provided in a casual, supportive, fun environment.
