The Arts Take Over Main Street in Collinsville

It was a first-year event that also revived a tradition.

The Chalk Walk — Septemberfest — Art Market took place along Main Street in Collinsville Saturday. Artists competed for prizes, vendors sold their wares, kids drew for fun and live music sent waves of excitement through town.

"It's fantastic," said organizer Kate McAllister. "Everyone here is happy. It couldn't have been a better day."

The event brings back a tradition. In the mid 2000s another group sponsored a popular chalk walk as part of a larger event that took place for just a couple years.

Don Nadeau of Francesca's said this year's event was great on many levels, both for fun and for merchant visibility.

"I think it's a success," he said. "All the businesses in town got a little more exposure and that's important for us."
