Guitarist Tim Palmieri Kicks Off Canton's Summer Concert Series

Next week musicians from DownRight Music and Art take the stage at Mills Pond Park.

Guitarist Tim Palmieri kicked off the Canton Parks and Recreation Department Summer Concert Series Thursday night.

Department Director Brian Wilson estimated that approximately 150 people came out and said he hopes people spread the word. He would like to see the attendance double and said the series generally gets more popular as summer goes on.

"I think it's only going to pick up from here," he said.

At the end of the concert, Wilson thanked the crowd for coming out and added, "bring your family, bring your friends, bring your hula hoops, your smiles and good weather."

Next week musicians from DownRight Music and Art in Collinsville will take the stage. The store is known for their eclectic and talented musical combinations.

"They're going to show up like a magic act," Wilson said. "I don't know what they have up their sleeve."

Concerts take place Thursdays at Mills Pond Park, except where noted, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Shows are free but will not be held in inclement weather.

The remaining schedule is as follows:

July 18 — DownRight Music Band
July 25 — Fat Dog
Aug. 1 — The Substitutes
Aug. 8 — The Farmington Valley Band (Gazebo at Town Green, Route 44 and Dowd Ave.)
Aug. 15 — Grayson Hugh
