Coinciding with the arrival of the newly redesigned 2012 Volkswagen Beetle, the staff of Mitchell Volkswagen is proud and honored to award the keys to a brand new Beetle to the local winner of the "Favorite Things" episode of the Oprah Winfrey show last year.
The long awaited prize will be picked up on October 18, 2012 at the Mitchell Volkswagen lot. The prize winner will receive one of the new 2012 Beetles, just as the vehicles arrive at the dealership for sale to the public.
"Mitchell Volkswagen is thrilled to offer Connecticut consumers one of the most highly anticipated vehicles of the 21st century-- ” we know Beetle fans have been eagerly awaiting the day," said dealer spokeswoman Jill Mitchell, "with its fierce and sporty design, extra cargo space and improved fuel economy, the new Beetle is sure to gain a new generation of admirers."
Merle Kaplan of Bloomfield, won the vehicle on the final installment of the Oprah Winfrey Show's famous "Favorite Things" episode in 2010. The Oprah Winfrey show ceased its storied run in May of 2011, so the November 2010 edition of the most popular episodes was the last. The two day broadcast event was capped with the giveaway of the 2012 Volkswagen Beetles. Recipients endured the long wait, as Volkswagen completely revamped the 2012 model. Kaplan's vehicle will be a Tornado Red two door model.
Redesigned for only the second time in the storied vehicle's history, the sportier 2012 Beetle is a modern interpretation of the iconic design. It balances classic beauty with modern edge and no-compromise German engineering. The first Volkswagen Beetle's were introduced in 1938, and the car was completely overhauled for a new release in 1998. The remains one of the most popular and iconic production vehicles in the history of the automobile.

This garage is an absolute SCAM... it's someone's get-rich quick scheme and they will be walking away with $4M and we will be left with a $1.4M garage that isn't needed.

If so many people in town were so concerned about wasteful expenditures, we would have heard them complain about $3.6 million for a track and field! When the "dumb" location argument failed to make headway, the opponents to the "dumb" garage plan, acting purely out of self-interest and not for the common good, switched to a financial argument. You can't fool me: I voted yes.

There is one BIG BIG thing missing from this entire six year long process.
the need was never…Read More assessed, there is no return on investment, it's complete overkill and wasteful spending and no one challenged the outrageously over priced estimates.
