Step Back in Time at Christmas in Collinsville

Update Saturday at 10:54 a.m.
The Collinsville Charity Craft Fair and some other activities are running as planned Saturday. Some, however, such as the horse-drawn carriage rides have been canceled for the day.

Original story

Whether it's a visit with Santa, a champagne walk, puppet shows, horse-drawn carriage rides or a myriad of other features, there's plenty to do at Christmas in Collinsville, which for 2013 takes place Dec. 13 and 14.

At the same time, however, it all takes place without the high tension that too often marks holiday activities.

"Everyone is very relaxed and they get to walk around Collinsville and feel like they're back in time," said Kathy Taylor, one of the event organizers.

The Collinsville Merchants Association started the event circa 2007, Taylor said. It has grown to incorporate other activities such as the town's tree lighting, a Saturday afternoon benefit craft fair and much more.

Friday night is a flurry of activity. In addition to the champagne walk (21 and older) at select merchants, many local businesses will feature live music and other refreshments. The town's tree lighting takes place at 7:30 p.m. in front of the Canton Historical Museum. The museum will also be open so visitors can view the 70 trees decorated by local residents and merchants.

Horse-drawn carriage rides are offered Friday night and Saturday. Saturday will also feature the Collinsville Charity Craft Fair in town hall, more time with Santa Claus, puppet shows, live music and more.
