Painter's Work on Display at Canton Town Hall

Display by Gloria Woodwell can be viewed during Town Hall Hours and on Farmington Valley Stage Company production nights.

Through the end of July the work of Canton painter Gloria S. Woodwell is on display at Canton Town Hall.

The collection includes 35 paintings, primarily done in oils but also acrylics and multimedia.

Woodwell, who grew up in town, has always loved to paint but 8 years ago left her job as an outside claims adjustor to devote her time to art.

"I retired to become an artist," she said. "(It's) two different lives, one stressful, one wonderful."

Woodwell enjoys painting seascapes, flowers and nature. In 2006, she was honored as a "Heritage Artist" and painted an outside bench as part of Canton's 200th celebration. The bench back is generally displayed along the Farmington River trail in the summer, near Collinsville Canoe and Kayak.

Woodwell, who also teaches in the area, said it's an honor to be displayed at town hall.

"I like painting and I like doing things for my town when I can," she said.

The paintings can be viewed during town hall hours and the Farmington Valley Stage Company production times
