Playing Music at Collinsville Farmers Market

“The little girl that sings big. With a blues man’s warmth, a bad girl’s passion and a Buddha’s enlightenment.” John Bolduc Music producer

Such are the glowing reviews of HannaH’s Field; a musical partnership between songstress, percussionist and guitarist HannaH and bass, vocalist and djembe (African drum) player Bongo Bliss, aka Chef Andy. It’s gypsy reggae with a mix of nutritional healing. Their newest release, “Music Magic Medicine,” even comes with a free vegetarian/wheat free cookbook.

HannaH’s Field has toured the U.S. and appeared with a wide variety of musicians including: the Average White Band, Brothers Johnson, Percy Hill and others. And now, they’re coming back to the Collinsville Farmers Market. About Town caught up with HannaH as she and Bongo Bliss were heading north to Canada for a performance.

H: We love the fresh vegetables coming right from the hands who grew them and being able to add a good musical vibration for the farmers and the
community.

AT: What are the biggest challenges facing a band playing a farmers market?

H: Getting people to stop and listen. Everyone moves so fast these days, but the children are always mesmerized by the music.

H: Organic music full of interesting world instruments, soul and roots.
We play lots of originals and people seem to enjoy our all-drum version of
Woodstock by Joni Mitchell.

AT: What's the value of having music at a farmers market?

H: Music brings all ages together.  Children dance, parents smile and the
farmers shake.

AT: Chef Andy offers some interesting recipes on the HannaH’s Field website: Mocha Banana Vegan Muffins and Mushroom-Walnut Veggie Burgers, for example. How about one more for About Town readers?

H: Here is a recipe from our new musical release that comes wrapped in a
vegan, dairy free, wheat free cookbook, "Music Magic Medicine."

Sunflower Seed Cookies

  • 1 cup sunflower seed butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoon ground flax seed
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole oats

Put oats in food processor and grind to a flour. In a large bowl, mix together the oat flour with all the other ingredients, using a spatula.

Scoop onto a cookie sheet and flatten with hands/fork. Bake at 350 degrees for

20 minutes.  Makes 1 dozen tablespoon-size cookies.
