From Canton to Cape Town

A Canton resident is collecting donations to help bring books to classrooms in Cape Town, South Africa.

Canton resident Anna Burbank studied abroad in Cape Town, South Africa. There, she met a teacher of young children who asked a powerful question:

"How are they to learn on the same level that you do, with no library, no Internet, no books and no way to afford public transportation to the city's public library?"

No one knew how to answer the teacher.

The library in the school exists, but the shelves are empty. Burbank decided to create a project on GoFundMe. Proceeds will go toward bringing books to Cape Town.

"This is a community of youth passionate about learning, the desire is there, but the resources are not," she wrote on the GoFundMe page.
