Fourth Annual Walk for Hunger, Set for Saturday, Gains Momentum

Canton's fourth annual Walk for Hunger takes place this Saturday but already the effort has generated $4,500 — more than last year did in total.

Most of that has come from business donations, said event organizer Nancy Habbal.

That support has also allowed for increased publicity, such as signs purchased by sponsor Norcom.

On Thursday, member of FOCUS on Canton and another sponsor - ShopRite of Canton representatives gathered at the store to receive an official proclomation from First Selectman Richard Barlow recognizing the event and Saturday May 11 as officially Walk for Hunger Day in Canton.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. The 2.7-mile walk through Collinsville starts and ends at the Canton Community Center, 40 Dyer Ave. Canton.

Registration is the day of the walk and cost is $10 for adults, $20 for families and $3 for students.

All proceeds benefit the Canton Food Bank, located at Trinity Episcopal Church.
