Former Canton Resident to Volunteer at 2014 Winter Olympic Games

Tamara (Norman) Smith has spent ten years in Moscow.

Former Canton Resident Tamara Smith, who has spent the last decade in Moscow, has been selected to volunteer in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Smith went to Canton schools through fifth grade and then went on to Renbrook and then Miss Porter's, from which she graduated in 1990. For 10 years she has lived with her husband and children in Moscow but still visits her mother in Canton every summer.

Smith hasn't received her assignment yet but as a former member of the Charter Oak Figure Skating Club out of West Hartford, she would love to work with U.S. Figure Skating team.

"I'm really excited," Smith said of volunteering. "If I end up working with the Figure Skating Team, I'll get a chance to help the team members who skate out of Simsbury."

She added, "It will be completely all-consuming and I'll miss my family but what a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! It will be the perfect way to cap off our decade of living in Moscow."
