First Solarize Canton Installation In Progress

Employees from Ross Solar Group were at the home of Gregory Boyko on Barbourtown Road Monday installing the first system in the Solarize Canton program.

"We jumped on it," Boyko said.

Under the solarize program through the Connecticut Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority, a vendor is competitively chosen and tiered pricing is offered with the price going down as more people sign up. Deadline for sign-up under the program is July 12.

Boyko's system involves 36, 260-watt panels. Electricity generated will feed into the home and any excess back into the street.

Boyko said he anticipates saving some $2,000 per year.

"Anything that pays back on 5 to 7 years — you have to take a good look at," he said.

Boyko anticipated the wiring would be done Tuesday and said the system should be ready to go soon pending final inspections by the town and Connecticut Light and Power.
