Farmington Valley Chorale Concert Honors Messiah Charitable Tradition

Submitted release

The Farmington Valley Chorale will perform G.F Handel’s Messiah Part 1 and songs of the season with soloists and organ on Friday, Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. and Sunday Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. at First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury. Donation at the door is $15; Full-time students are free.

Messiah soloists, who are all students or alumni of Central Connecticut State University, are generously donating their time for the concert, allowing the Chorale to make a donation in their names to the First Church’s Masooli Project, which provides health care for people in the village of Masooli, Uganda. Nancy Crouch, member of First Church and a founder and member of the Board of Directors for the Project, says the charity “Concentrates on improving women’s health, which positively affects the lives of the entire family and village.”

According to Ellen G. Voth, the Chorale’s Artistic Director, “With this donation, the Chorale is joining a long tradition of Messiah concerts associated with charities. I want to give a huge thank you to our soloists and the music department at CCSU for supporting this cause so heartily.”

The soloists include: Victoria Murphy, soprano; Emily LaRose and Michelle Gara, mezzo sopranos; Christopher Dukes and Kevin Schneider, tenors; and Brian Jones, bass. Also performing will be Frank Zilinyi, Organist and Director of Music at St. Mary’s Church in Milford, and pianist Bridget de Moura Castro, Chorale accompanist and Director of Music at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Hartford.
