When Natalie Gallo was looking for a Girl Scout project last year, she decided to hold a fashion show to raise awareness about the Not For Sale organization and human trafficking.
Natalie recruited her two older sisters, Maureen and Audrey, along with their friends to be models for the show. Local consignment stores provided the outfits and the show was a success.
But then a cause took hold of their hearts. Audrey and Maureen organized teams for Relay for Life and learned of a 10-year-old Farmington girl who was diagnosed with cancer.
The sisters decided to replicate last year’s fashion show to benefit the American Cancer Society in honor of the Farmington girl currently in treatment.
The show, called Compassion Thru Fashion, will be held today, March 15 at West Woods School in Farmington. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.
Though the cause is serious, the show should be fun, with designer outfits, vintage clothing, party dresses and prom gowns provided this year by Mandee of Bristol, Pink House of Canton and Teenage Wasteland of Simsbury. LaBelle Chateau Salon of Unionville will do the hair and makeup for the 25 models.
Models include the Gallo sisters and many other students from Farmington High School, where they all now attend school.
To make it even more special, the Gallos reached out to Connecticut School of Broadcasting for help and the school agreed to live stream the show to the girl’s hospital room and to other patients at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
Farmington filmmaker Greg Kessler's GKess Films has developed video for the start of the show as well as during intermission for the Internet audience.
The event is also sponsored by the REACH Foundation.
Donations will be accepted at the door.
