Canton's Neighbors Helping Neighbors Day Deemed a Great Success

54 Canton High School students pitch in.

Story submitted by event co-chairs Kathy Corkum and Cynthia Politano

On Nov. 2, 2013 Focus on Canton held its 17th Neighbors Helping Neighbors Day.

Nearly doubling the number of volunteers from the prior year, 213 helpers completed 50 jobs for Canton residents all around town.

The increase in volunteers is due to the generous outreach of our citizens to help those less fortunate financially or physically.

For the first time Focus on Canton partnered up with the Canton High School, an effort spearheaded by Jordan Grossman, Assistant Superintendent of Canton Schools. With Adult Advisor, Gabrielle Aitchison and the addition to Focus's membership of Dana Nelson and Lillian Hyde, Seniors at Canton High School, 54 students from Canton High School, 4 CHS employees and 3 parents of CHS students volunteered.

They filled a bus donated by Martel Transportation, driven by Dan Hudson of Canton, who donated his time.

Bulky waste and brush loads were taken to the transfer station, windows were washed and many yards were raked.  A deck was made safe, batteries were changed, flowers were planted and mattresses turned.

Thank you to all the volunteers, donors of supplies and Focus members that ran the event.  What a difference the day made for Canton.
