Canton Storm Central: Schools Closed Friday

Update 11:49 a.m. Friday

It's been a long haul for Public Works crews but clean-up is progressing nicely, department director Robert Martin said Friday morning.

Cold temperatures are presenting challenges and the town used more salt than normal but the treated material helped greatly, he said.

"Overall we're doing well," he said.

Martin said the pavement is becoming visible on many roads but said drifting snow will certainly be a factor. Shortly before noon Martin said he hoped to get his crews home in two to three hours but said some may have to come back if those drifts become a big issue.

Officials are also urging people to stay off the roads tonight, expressing special concern about the cold weather that could put motorists in a dangerous position should they get in an accident.
