Canton Community Health Fund Awards Grants

Funds will build a shade shelter at Mills Pond Pool, buy equipment for the fire department and fund Focus on Canton programs, among others.

Canton Community Health Fund has awarded $23,095 to local organizations this year, including $5,000 grants to the recreation department, the Canton Volunteer Fire and EMS Department and Focus on Canton for projects that will benefit residents.

The Canton Recreation Department will use the money to pay for a shade shelter at Mills Pond Pool, according to the Hartford Courant. Major renovations, including replacing the concrete deck, repairs to the pool shell and new pool filtrations systems, are planned for later this year, according to an earlier Patch article. The shade shelter will likely be built during the same period between the wading pool and the 50-meter pool.

The Canton Fire Department will put the funds toward a chest compression system, which helps emergency responders to perform CPR and costs $13,124. The remaining cost will be allocated from the fire department budget, the Courant reported.
