A Special Birthday for Muriel LeGeyt

Friends and family recently gathered at The First Congregational Church in Canton Center to celebrate the 90th birthday of Muriel LeGeyt.

LeGeyt is well known in town for her historical roots and many activities.

She's always lived in Canton Center and over the years her employment has included working in the kitchen at Canton High School, as a school bus driver in Canton and more than 20 years at Collinsville Savings Society.

"This is a very special day for her," said her son Tim LeGeyt as he, five siblings and a myriad of community and church members said hello to his mother.

Muriel LeGeyt's parents were Mortimer Bristol and Blanche Gillette.

The Bristol family is one of Canton's oldest. Noah Bristol came to town circa 1820 and married Mary Barber, whose family had been in the area since 1738 (before Canton was incorporated), Tim LeGeyt said.

Muriel married the late Henry LeGeyt in 1951 and the couple had six children.

Muriel LeGeyt said she appreciated people coming to the church, where she's been active for some 75 years.

"It's such a great afternoon," she said. "I appreciate everyone coming."
