THE THEATER OF THE 1930'S, 1940'S, AND 1950'S: BOSTON-AREA ACTOR COLLINS RETURNS TO CANTON

The Theater of the 1930's, 1940's, and 1950's with Stephen Collins will be given on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 4:00 P. M. at the Canton Public Library, 40 Dyer Avenue in Canton, Connecticut.  A reception and a chance to meet the actor will follow the show.  This event is free and no tickets or reservations are required.  For further details, please contact the Canton Public Library at 860 693 5800 or The Maxwell Shepherd Memorial Arts Fund at 860 693 2762.

In partnership with the Canton Public Library, The Maxwell Shepherd Memorial Arts Fund will welcome back Boston-area actor, teacher, and literary and historical guide Stephen Collins.  For his third visit to the Canton area and his second to the Canton Public Library, Mr. Collins will give a one-person performance that captures one of the great periods in the history of the American stage.  The impact on America by The Great Depression, The Second World War, and the fracturing of the American Dream will be shown through the works of such luminaries as William Saroyan, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, and Eugene O'Neil.

Since the late 1990's Stephen Collins has become synonymous with Walt Whitman and has achieved considerable acclaim through his insightful and riveting performances in Unlauch'd Voices: An Evening with Walt Whitman.  In this one-person two-act play, Mr. Collins embodies both the poet and the man, reflecting on his life's work.  The same seamless fusion of drama, literature, and history is found in all of Mr. Collins' shows, which are as entertaining as they are informative.
