Thanksgiving Tent at Miller Foods to open Nov. 23; celebrity chef Todd Daigneault to give cooking demonstration

AVON – Chef Todd H. Daigneault, healthy cooking expert for the “Change Your Attitude…Change Your Life” program on WOR 710AM Radio in New York City, will present a healthy cooking demonstration on Saturday, Nov. 23 during grand opening festivities for Miller Foods’ Thanksgiving Tent. An annual tradition for more than 20 years, the tent gives consumers a one-stop shopping venue where turkey, trimmings and desserts can be purchased for the holiday.

Daigneault, executive chef for Atlantic Health Systems in New Jersey, is devoted to helping people incorporate healthy eating into their daily lifestyle. At Miller Foods he will serve samples of two Thanksgiving season dishes, Holiday Couscous Stuffing and Turkey Tetrazzini, a creative way to use leftovers. Recipe cards will also be available.

A Connecticut native, Daigneault grew up working on his grandparents’ farm in Baltic. A graduate of Johnson & Wales with vast culinary experience, he ventured into health care after experiencing a life threatening surgery that forced him to modify his eating and cooking style. Miller Foods representatives met him at a food show in New York.

In addition to the celebrity chef appearance, another new feature at this year’s Thanksgiving Tent is called “We Support Local.” Several area vendors will have booths, including Avery’s Soda, Avon Cider Mill, Custom Pet Cabinetry, George Hall Organic Farm, J. Foster ice cream, Lost Acres Vineyards, New England Country Comforts, and Pickin’ Patch. The Avon High School Animal Welfare Fund will also be present selling baked goods for the cause.

The outdoor tent will be open from Saturday, Nov. 23 through Wednesday, Nov. 27. It will also be open to the public Wednesday, Nov. 20 for those wishing to purchase items for donation to Jack Bannan’s Farmington Valley Turkey Trot, an annual one-day drive benefiting Foodshare. Members of the Lite 100.5 WRCH on-air staff will be at Miller Foods during the Turkey Trot to greet those who come to donate.
