State Rep. Tim LeGeyt Tours Site of New CREC Reggio Magnet School of the Arts
AVON – Last week, State Rep. Tim LeGeyt (R-17) toured the site of the new CREC Reggio Magnet School of the Arts in Avon. Joined by Reggio Magnet School Principal, Josie DiPietro Smith, and CREC Coordinator Julia Winer, the group was given a guided tour of the grounds and new facility by Construction Project Manager, Marnie Van Dyke.
“It was a great opportunity for me to visit the site of the new CREC Reggio Magnet School of the Arts,” said LeGeyt. “Marnie VanDyke and the construction crew have put in countless hours of work into building this beautiful, state-of-the-art facility, which will offer students many unique opportunities and experiences to learn and grow. I wish Principal DePietro Smith and her staff much success as they continue to inspire and engage students and their families in the learning process.”
Van Dyke explained to the group that the Reggio Emilia Education Philosophy was an important consideration from project concept to construction and design. This teaching approach, which puts the natural environment at the center of its philosophy, is reflected throughout the building design. From the central Piazza, infused with skylights and natural accents, to the classrooms and rooftop garden of the Nature Lab, students can learn together in an environment that not only brings the inspiration of nature indoors, but also connects the students to the outdoors.
