Playground Sponsorships Start Rolling In

Checks are starting to arrive in the PTO mailbox at Cherry Brook Primary School in support of the new, accessible, community playground to be located on the school property.

In addition to a $1,000 grant from Walmart and a $100 donation from Suburban Sanitation earlier this year, several local businesses have recently committed to sponsoring this community effort, both financially and in terms of in-kind donations.

  • The Farmington Bank Community Foundation informed the PTO late last week that the Foundation approved their grant request of $5,000 in support of the playground project.

  • Dean Martel, owner of Martel Transportation and Premier Energy, donated $1,000 on behalf of both companies.

  • Hoffman Auto Group made a $500 donation.

  • The Joseph Family, owners of Shop Rite in Canton, donated $500.

  • Cherry Brook parent Stephanie May, owner of Mr. Trophy, has made an in-kind donation to design and manufacture the plaques for the 12 benches and 4 picnic tables that will be included on the playgrounds.  Additionally, Mr. Trophy will also create the sponsorship wall to be located on the larger playground where all of the above businesses will be recognized for their generous donations.

  • The hope is that through a combination of additional grants and community support, the CBPS PTO will have raised enough money by June to install the larger of the two playgrounds over the summer break.  All contributions are greatly appreciated, and those of $500 or more will be formally recognized on the sponsorship wall.  Assuming the larger playground was installed over the summer, the phase two goal would be to replace the smaller playground in 2015.

The CBPS PTO is a 501c(3) organization and all donations are tax deductible.  Donations can be mailed to the PTO at Cherry Brook Primary School, 4 Barbourtown Road, Canton, CT  06019.  Checks should be made out the CBPS PTO.  Questions can be directed to PTO Co-Vice President, Anne Marie Pelletier, at CBPSPTO@CantonSchools.org or 860.693.1594.  Additional information about the project and how you can become a sponsor or donate a bench can also be found at the PTO’s website: http://www.cantonschools.org/~cbpspto/
