Rob Branham Foundation to benefit from Woofstock 2013

On Saturday, Nov. 2, gather up the family – especially canine members of the household – for a fun-filled event called Woofstock 2013: 1 Day of Peace, Love and Pooches. This second annual event, a benefit for the Simsbury-based Rob Branham Foundation, will take place at Miller Foods, 308 Arch Road, Avon, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, Nov. 3.

Miller Foods, also the home of Oma’s Pride raw pet food and O’Paws freeze-dried pet food and treats, is co-sponsoring the event along with Clear Channel Radio. The celebrity host is Renee DiNino from The River 105.9 FM. Admission is free and dogs are welcome but must be on a leash. Free “Wag Bags” will be available.

With Veteran’s Day right around the corner, one highlight of the event will be a Patriotic Pooch Parade. Dogs that are dressed in a patriotic costume can participate with their owners. Parade registration begins at 10:30 a.m. Prizes will be given for the best costume in four categories: King, Queen of Woofstock; Best Patriotic Costume; Most Unusual Patriotic Costume; Best Dog/Owner Look-a-Like Patriotic Costume.

Woofstock 2013 will include obedience and competitive sports training demonstrations featuring police and service dogs, pet-themed vendors, fun product giveaways, and food. Also, humans can have their picture taken with their pooches.

The Rob Branham Foundation is a small, non-profit organization dedicated to providing support and services to patients and families fighting leukemia and other blood-related diseases. The goal is to help them cope with the “extraneous” stresses more easily, so they can focus their attention on the patient's treatment and healing.

The Foundation’s focus is to raise money for three purposes: the New England Marrow Donor Program to place potential marrow donors on the National Bone Marrow Registry; provide educational information about leukemia to patients and their families; provide monetary assistance to patients and their families while they are fighting the illness.
