Oma’s Pride supports local products, CT partnerships
Miller Foods, Inc., the home of Oma’s Pride, partners with businesses across the state.
The family-owned and operated company, which manufactures and distributes top-quality products for both people and pets, has been based in Avon since 1952. The business is part of the community in many ways, and its involvement is ever-growing.
At Miller Foods’ Thanksgiving Tent, where patrons can buy their holiday turkey as well as trimmings and desserts, the new feature “We Support CT” was introduced in 2013. The company reached out to local businesses to sell their wares under the tent. Many responded, from the Pickin’ Patch, George Hall Farm and Country Comforts to The Coffee Trade, J. Foster’s ice cream and Lost Acres Vineyards. Pet vendors like Brownstone Bakery and Custom Pet Cabinetry also participated.

Out of that idea, the company decided to come up with a program to entice more Connecticut businesses to sell Oma’s Pride, a line of raw pet food that Miller Foods has been making for more than a decade, and O’Paws freeze-dried food and treats. While the products are sold at Miller’s Avon shop and are distributed nationwide, there’s a new focus on partnering with in-state pet shops.
“We’re finding more local retailers who want to carry our Connecticut-made pet food,” Vice President of Sales & Marketing Capri Frank said.

Dogology in Canton and Simon Sez Pets in Newington are new partners, joining others like Leaps & Bones in South Windsor and Diamond Creek Pet Resort in Goshen.
“Pet food as nature intended” is the motto of Oma’s Pride, the belief being that a raw food diet replicates what canines and felines have eaten for years. Although cats and dogs are now domesticated, their digestive systems are designed for a live enzyme-rich diet.
“Animals are people too and we want to feed our companions as we would feed ourselves,” company President Sandi Trudeau said.
“Our locally-made products are manufactured in our USDA-inspected facility and we support Connecticut businesses as part of our commitment to the community,” Frank said.
