Friends of Canton Football Golf Tournament Raises $16,000

The 9th Annual Friends of Canton Football golf tournament raised $16,000, thanks to 85 golfers, several local business sponsors, parent volunteers and more than 100 families and businesses that underwrote tee signs or donated items for the raffle and silent auction.

The tournament, held under blue skies at the Simsbury Farms Golf Course on Sept. 13, included a continental breakfast, lunch and dinner, followed by a raffle and silent auction. The event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Friends of Canton Football, which raises $40,000 a year to fully fund the Canton High School football and girls’ lacrosse teams.

Friends of Canton Football is grateful to all golfers who participated, including Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jordan Grossman, Canton High School Principal Drew DiPippo, Middle School Principal Joe Scheideler and high school Assistant Principal Eric Verner.

The event was chaired by Scott Daley, with help from volunteers A.J. Zukowski, Kathy Wood, Sara Scott, Diana Lawler, Carol Melton, Jim Garrity and Karl Grabowski.   The main sponsors were Triatic, The Perfect Toy, AJZ Physical Therapy, Construction & General Laborers’ Local Union 230  and Northwest Hills Chrysler Jeep.

“The annual golf tournament is our largest fundraiser, raising 40 percent of the funds needed to support the Canton High School football and girls’ lacrosse teams,” said Daley, the tournament chairman.  “It’s also an opportunity to come together as a community, have some fun and promote our terrific scholar-athletes.”

Friends of Canton Football’s next big fundraiser is the annual winter raffle.  Sales begin in December, with the winners drawn during halftime of the last CHS boys’ basketball game in February.  The raffle is the primary fundraiser for covering the entire cost of the girls’ lacrosse team in the spring.

Donations are still being accepted. Please make checks payable to FOCF, P.O. Box 54, Canton, CT 06019.
