Favarh Presents the 2013 Community Partner Award

The Favarh Community Partner Award was a new award given out by Favarh this year to recognize a group, organization, or employer who has been instrumental in helping the Favarh clients Achieve Their Personal Best. Stephen Morris, Favarh Executive Director, was happy to present Avon Old Farms School with the 2013 Favarh Community Partner Award.

Favarh has been in partnership with the school for 8 years.  Both Heather Callaghan and Tyler Wuthmann, Avon Old Farms School faculty, have been the driving force behind this partnership which includes the use of their facilities for both soccer and basketball seasons and student volunteers who assist with running practices. The Favarh Special Olympics unified basketball program is the largest in the state fielding six teams. The school has a beautiful facility with 3 side by side courts, one of the few such facilities available for such a large contingency.

The school hosts the Favarh after basketball season celebration at their facility attended by students. For each sport, up to 25 students assist with the running of practices, assisting with coaching, skill building, and drills. Because of their youth and enthusiasm, their presence adds a wonderful and supportive atmosphere for Favarh’s athletes. Special Olympics Unified Sports provides an opportunity for athletes to develop new skills, increase self-esteem, improve fitness, and have fun. This would not have been possible without the partnership from this wonderful institution.
