Community Corner

Canton Dollars for Scholars thanks Community

We at Canton Dollars for Scholars are happy to report that the fourth annual Canton Holiday Craft Fair, held on Saturday, November 23rd at Canton High School, was a tremendous success.  Nearly 800 people came to see the creations of our 85 artisans and vendors!  Most importantly, the funds raised will go directly to help more high school seniors living in Canton to reach their goals of education beyond high school.

The fair’s success is a reflection of the valued partnership of the community and the schools with CDFS. We wish to sincerely thank the many individuals and organizations whose time, effort and resources helped to make this event possible:

Canton School Superintendent Kevin Case, Assistant Superintendent Jordan Grossman, and Superintendent’s Executive Assistant Susan McDonald provided crucial facility and supply support.  Canton High School front office staff and custodial staff kindly and consistently supported our event planning and setup.

The following student and community groups helped with setup, vendors and concessions:  Avon-Canton Rotary Interact Club, CHS Student Council, CHS Substance-Free Students and the CDFS Student Members.  These young volunteers really stepped up this year!

Finally, many organizations donated products or services that were much appreciated:  Angel Tips Salon, Big Sky Fitness Center, Big Y, Bremar Rental, Collinsville Savings Society, Farmington Valley Times, Flatbread Company, Froyo World, Gallery Salon, Haircrafters Salon, Hartford Courant, Medical Billing Associates, Panera Bread, Pizza Pete’s, Roaring Brook Kennel, Shop Rite, The Spirited Hand, The Whole Donut and Valley Press.

The support from the Canton community and surrounding towns has been wonderful.  We thank you all and look forward to helping many young people pursue higher education.  High school seniors and parents, please visit our new website www.canton.dollarsforscholars.org and remember that you can begin applying online at the beginning of February 2014!

Sincerely,

Canton Dollars for Scholars Board
