Warriors Win at Enfield, 36-27

Amanda Curvino has 18 points as Canton snaps 11-game losing skid.

A 9-0 run in the final three minutes of the third quarter broke open a tight game, and Canton went on to post a 36-27 victory at Enfield in NCCC girls basketball action Tuesday.

The Warriors led by two at halftime, but Amanda Curvino began the game-breaking run with a three-point shot, and freshman Gabby Rose capped the spurt with a pair of hoops.

"Amanda has really stepped up, and today she relaxed a little bit and stopped thinking so much, and she made some key shots in some big situations," Canton head coach Michael Jessie said. "Gabby is a freshman and you can only expect so much from a freshman, but she's had some big games for us and really stepped to the occasion."

Canton increased the lead to as much as 13 in the fourth quarter, but a pair of three-pointers by Enfield's Olivia Caronna brought the Raiders within eight with 2:14 to play. However, the Warrior defense held the home team scoreless the rest of the way.

Curvino finished with a game-high 18 points, including a trio of three-pointers, while Rose contributed 11. Enfield, which played without top scorer Rachel Kaliff due to injury, was led by Tiara Johnson's eight points.

"Rachel is a leader out there, she takes control and pumps up the girls," Enfield head coach Megan Willis said. "Tiara had a little fire, but unfortunately a lot of our shots weren't falling."

Both squads return to action with home games Friday at 7 p.m. Canton (2-11), which snapped an 11-game losing streak, hosts Granby Memorial, while Enfield (2-11) entertains Avon.
