Town Looks at Creating Permanent Energy Committee

Group would continue to study hydro possibilities, look at other energy conservation opportunities and programs.

Wednesday the town will hold a special town meeting on a proposal to create a permanent energy committee.

First Selectman Richard Barlow said two driving factors are behind the proposal.

First is that the Temporary Hydro Advisory Committee, which began meeting in May of 2009, has nearly reached the limit of how long it can operate.

By charter temporary committee’s can meet for two years and then be extended for two six-month periods.

Secondly, Barlow said, there are many “opportunities” for energy conservation and programs that would benefit both the municipality and its residents.

The new committee would continue looking at the feasibility of bringing the Collinsville dam(s) online as well as look at other energy issues and alternatives.

“We thought it was a natural thing to do them together,” Barlow said.

The meeting will take place Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 7 p.m. the Canton Public Library & Community Center, 40 Dyer Ave., Canton
