The Pink House: A Local Haunt for a More Creative Halloween

Using Vintage Clothing as Trendy Costumes

About Town made a quick stop at the temporary retail shop known as Spirit Halloween in Avon, to find out what costumes are hot for the holiday.

Harry Potter et al, continue to rein supreme for children. Vampire and zombie costumes are neck and neck in popularity for adult males. And with wall to wall options, women can be sexy sailors, sexy firefighters, sexy nurses…. you get the point.

But on the way back to Canton, About Town caught sight of a stylish arrangement of potentially ghoulish costuming outside the Pink House.

Especially eye catching was a long, black coat, trimmed in feathers which screamed Cruella De Ville. Just inside the shop, a sleek, black cape with a high collar seemed suitable for vampires who want to emphasize the ‘vamp’ part of their appearance.

This upcoming Halloween has kept Pink House owner, Gloria Mogilewsky, busy assisting customers who're seeking costumes that offer an authentic look and feel.

While this popular consignment shop sells clothing and accessories that are currently in vogue, Mogilewsky also specializes in vintage outfits from many other decades as well. Especially popular right now, she says, are fashions from the 1960s Mad Men era and the colorful disco years of the 1970s.

“We have lots of leopard and animal prints; disco dresses; hand-made special occasion outfits; as well as Jackie Kennedy-inspired dresses, hats and accessories. And, all at great prices.”

This small shop is packed with creative options for costumes. There are pill box hats. Peasant dresses. More capes. Lots of velvet everything. And, designer separates ready to be woven into a unique Halloween personality.

“Why wouldn’t you wear a chic Halston dress, (circa 1970’s), for Halloween?”

Now, that’s an option even sexy nurse may want to consider.

The pink house is a fantastic place to get so many nice clothes, shoes, and accessories. If you haven't been, you really should. Gloria is really nice and helpful with everything, so go out there and support your local small business shop! My girlfriend loves the place and would clean out the bank account if I didn't restrain her!
