Solarize Canton Effort Officially Launched

Residents invited to attend second seminar and peruse project web site.

More than two dozen Canton residents attended a recent "Solarize Canton" presentation and those interested can review the information on project web site and/or attend an upcoming seminar on April 6.

Recently, the town of Canton was one of five towns selected for Solarize Connecticut, a State-sponsored program through the Connecticut Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA).

Under the program, a solar vendor, chosen through a competitive process, agrees to offer systems at tiered pricing level, which becomes even more favorable with increased participation.

This past week at the community center, local officials, clean energy advocates, state Sen. Kevin Witkos and representatives from Ross Solar Group, the chosen vendor, introduced the program.

“We’re really excited about this,” said Matthew Stone, president of the Canton Energy Committee.

While residents would not be required to use the selected vendor, one of the great things about the program is that it can eliminate the anxiety about installing a system and choosing a vendor, said Toni Bouchard, vice president of SmartPower, a non-profit marketing firm dedicated to promoting clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Speakers also reviewed solar technology, systems, payment options and much more.

Interested residents still have time to learn more about the program, which requires action by July 12. In addition to the attached pdfs, the web site http://solarizect.com/our-towns/solarize-canton/ contains more information and will list upcoming programs.

On Saturday, April 6 a second Solarize Canton Workshop on Saturday from 11 am to 1 p.m. at the Canton Community Center on 40 Dyer Avenue

The web site also contains information about an April 13 solar tour and seminar sponsored by People’s Action for Clean Energy and the CEFIA.
