Raiders Shut Out Canton, 34-0

Hugh Lindo and Avery Boissy score a pair of touchdowns each as Enfield rolls to Pequot Conference victory.

For the second straight week, the combination of offensive firepower and stingy defense provided Enfield High School with a lopsided victory over a division opponent.

The latest victim of the Raiders was Canton, who gained just 118 total yards as Enfield pitched a 34-0 shutout in Pequot Conference Uncas Division football action Saturday.

The homestanding Raiders gained 331 yards from scrimmage, including 193 through the air from quarterback Tony Romano. Hugh Lindo was his favorite target, catching seven passes for 106 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

On the ground, Avery Boissy was a workhorse, gaining 115 yards on 18 carries.

Enfield got all the points it needed on a 19-yard catch and run from Romano to Lindo with 3:40 to play in the first quarter. Anthony Trotta added the extra point kick.

The Romano-to-Lindo duo hooked up again early in the second quarter on an 11-yard scoring pass. Moments later, Lukasz Kluk intercepted an Eric Scott pass and returned it 35 yards into Canton territory, setting up an eight-yard scoring run by Boissy for a 20-0 lead.

With just a minute remaining in the first half, Romano tossed his third touchdown pass of the day, finding Tyler deMontigny on a 36-yard play to provide the Raiders with a 27-0 advantage.

Canton came roaring back after the kickoff, as Matt Demarco hooked up with Scott on a 60-yard pass play that gave the Warriors a first down at the Enfield 19 with 29 seconds left in the half. Enfield's Michael Crowley knocked down a pass intended for Conner Gavin near the goal line, then a fourth-down pass fell incomplete to end the drive.

"We didn't come to play the first half," Canton coach Roger Pearl said. "We knew exactly what they were going to do on every single play, but we didn't make the plays."

The Warriors played much better defense after intermission, holding the Raiders scoreless until Boissy broke through for a 19-yard scoring run with 8:10 left in the fourth quarter.

Both teams are back in action Friday at 7 p.m. Enfield (4-1) hosts undefeated Housatonic/Wamogo, while Canton (0-5) hits the road to face Coventry/Windham Tech.
