About eight months after the start of the Waggin' for Wheels fundraising campaign, Avon-Canton Animal Control Officer Beverly LaPlume has her long-awaited van.

She, Avon-based Miller Foods staff that spearheaded the fundraising and Public Works Deputy Director Alex Trujillo celebrated the send-off of the 2012 Dodge Ram cargo van Tuesday morning with coffee and doughnuts at the Avon Canine Shelter.

The van is now outfitted with two-way police radio, LED roof lights, emergency lights, a spotlight on the roof, and trays and cage dividers in the interior.

The new van replaces a 1998 Ford Windstar that was donated to LaPlume by a community member. The town sold the old van for $601.09 in a publicsurplus.com auction, which helped pay for the $19,000 van, along with a $18,398.91 donation from the Waggin' for Wheels campaign.

Mitchell Auto Group, of Simsbury, sold the van for a discounted price, as that model typically runs for $24,770, according to Mitchell records
