Service Clubs, ShopRite, Others Donate to Gifts for Canton
Chamber party raffle raises another $535.
Gifts for Canton chairwoman Ann Gagnon announced some significant contributions this week.
The Rotary Club of Canton-Avon donated $1,000 and the Canton Lions Club $500, she said during the Canton Chamber of Commerce's Gifts for Canton fundraiser at Rice Fields Monday night.
A raffle at the event brought in another $535 and ShopRite of Canton donated 10 gifts cards. Many individuals and other businesses also donated cards and cash, Gagnon said.
"I do think that it was one of the best Chamber holiday parties," Gagnon said, adding that the food and raffles were great.
"Thank you to everyone who donated gifts, raffle prizes and purchased raffle tickets," Gagnon added.
Started in 1995, Gifts for Canton is an annual drive to help struggling families in Canton. In addition to the gift cards for food and other items, such as clothing, toys are collected as well. It is sponsored by the chamber and supported by several other individuals and organizations, such as the Rotary and the Lions clubs.
This Saturday The Canton Police Department will host a "Stock the Cruiser" Holiday Gift and Food Drive from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Shoppes at Farmington Valley.
First come, first-served distribution takes place at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 13 at the Canton Food Bank, downstairs at Trinity Episcopal Church. Proof of residency is required.
Through Dec. 11, toys can also be dropped off at one of the numerous boxes throughout town.
Gagnon is still hoping to get additional gift cards as well. Her goal is to give each family at least two $50 gift cards for groceries as well as each older kid one for items like clothing.
Gift Card or cash donations can be also dropped off at the Canton Chamber of Commerce 101 River Road Canton, CT 06019 (P.O. Box 704 Canton 06019) during office hours or by calling the chamber at 860-693-0405 or Gagnon at 860-693-4988 or 860-693-4170.
