Woman Dies After Head-on Crash

Colt Highway reopened around 1:30 p.m.

Update: A 24-year-old woman has died as a result of a head-on crash on Route 6 this morning. The name of the woman has not been released.

Original story: Two women were taken to area hospitals this morning after a head-on crash on Route 6 by Pinnacle Road. Their injuries are life-threatening, police said.

According to Farmington Police Lt. Marshall Porter, it looks as though one car crossed the center line at the top of the mountain and struck the other. Witnesses to the accident were able to describe what happened. Each of the women was alone.

Route 6 was closed between Reservoir Road and Scott Swamp Road for several hours while the North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Team was on scene investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to contact either Sgt. Paul Walzak at 860-675-2415 or Officer James Stone at 860-675-2427.

That is an awful part of the road when it's wet. So many accidents happen there.

Seriously - this area of Route 6 is so scary on a good day - not sure why they don't put something between lanes, even if just marker poles to keep people from crossing over. When it is raining and dark, it is very hard to see. Someone should look into how many people die on Route 6 every year and where - I'll bet they'd be suprised, and there'd be a call for something to be done to protect people in this area.

There have been several accidents along this stretch. Maybe it calls for a lower speed limit - it is currently 45 but I travel this every morning and the average speed of the cars is about 55, and scary when you get to the curve - I try to stay in the right lane as much as possible when coming up the hill.....

I think it also calls for a replacement light at Reservoir and Pinnacle, in addition to some other measures that make traveling that stretch safer. I agree with Ron. My thoughts with these two women and I hope for the best. Judi

What a tragedy. A car crossing over the center line is always a fear of mine, especially on roads like rt. 6. My thoughts are with the families of those involved.

Oh no... 24-years-old. On the same morning where those of us with Bristol ties were holding our breath over a situation at BCHS. I'm so sad for the family of the young woman that passed away. And I'm thankful that the situation at BCHS has ended with nobody hurt.

She's my age. This is so sad, and right before Thanksgiving too. My condolences to the family.

What a horrible tragedy! I travel this route every day in constant fear and hug the shoulder as much as possible to avoid cars crossing the center line. You wouldn't believe how often this occurs. How many more accidents must occur before someone takes action??? At the very least, add a double center line so there's a little "wiggle" room.

Don't hug it too closely. There are cyclists out there that take that route out to W Hartford and N Britain.

I was late picking my kids because route 6 was closed on Wednesday. I thought maybe some construction was going on or trees being cut from the storm. This morning I received an email at work saying that the 24 year old who worked at my company died on Wednesday in a car accident on route 6. I said oh my God I couldn't beleive it.
