Twelve Canton runners recently won second place overall in the Green Mountain Relay, a 198.4-mile relay with 34 teams competing.

Although not an official school function, the Canton runners went to get in one more run as a team, before eight of them head off to college in the fall, parent Steven Kucia said.

It started in Jeffersonville, Vermont and ran south to Bennington, Vermont. The boys each had three legs to run and it went through the night. The team finished in 23 hours and 14 minutes, winning the high school division and coming in second overall.
